Blackfriars, Friars Street Newcastle
I wanted to start the blog off with a positive review so a good place to start is Blackfriars restaurant in Newcastle. My husband and I decided to go here for our wedding anniversary back in February. We were initially impressed that when we made the booking the restaurant asked whether we had any allergies. This put me at ease straight away. It's also great to know that the restaurant have this in mind and avoids any awkward conversations on the day.
On arrival we were shown to a lovely table at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is medieval themed with low lighting and a quirky design; the perfect setting for an anniversary meal.
When ordering we reminded the waiter about my nut allergy and he re-assured us that he would take our order and then double check with the chef. True to his word, he returned after checking with the chef to say that there would be no nuts in the food that we ordered. I had a lovely crab and lobster starter followed by salmon and my husband had belly pork starter and beef wellington. We also enjoyed an artichoke amuse bouche. For dessert, we shared sticky toffee pudding.
Blackfriars change their menus periodically and therefore at the moment the food we ate is not on the menu however the restaurant's attitude to allergies was brilliant and therefore I'm sure they would be able to accommodate allergies with any of their menus.
I'm going to rate restaurants and experiences in my blog out of 5 for the approach to allergies. Blackfriars gets 5/5 from me!
