Jesmond Dene House, Jesmond, Newcastle

My husband surprised me with an overnight stay at Jesmond Dene House on our first year wedding anniversary. I drove there after work and my husband was already there and met me at reception. When he showed me to our room, I couldn't believe it when he stopped at the door of "The Apartment". This was not the room he had booked but the hotel knew it was our anniversary and kindly decided to upgrade us to the best room in the hotel. The room was amazing with key features being a balcony, a separate sitting room and a bathroom with a double shower.

We had already booked Blackfriars for our evening meal but in the morning we were able to sample the breakfast at the hotel. We ordered from a very nice menu which included locally sourced choices. I ordered eggs benedict (which was delicious) and my husband went for his usual full english. We then made our way through to the continental buffet. We were extremely impressed with the allergy awareness of the buffet. Each item had a card next to it identifying any allergens. My husband was very happy that he was able to have the homemade banana bread which was nut free (I think he had 2 slices on top of his full english).

It's fair to say that the breakfast at Jesmond Dene House was top class from an allergy perspective and the best experience at a hotel so far! We therefore rate Jesmond Dene House breakfast 5/5. I have heard that the hotel also specialises in a nut free afternoon tea and this is therefore on the list to try soon!
