Woodhill Hall Wedding

We recently attended a wedding at Woodhill Hall in Otterburn and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Woodhill Hall is a Georgian Manor House set in the quaint and quiet Northumberland countryside. It is the perfect summer wedding venue equipped with a lovely courtyard (which was a a sun trap) and its very own teepee.

The Bride and Groom were relieved to find that they had perfect weather for their big day and the wedding took place outside. Following the ceremony, we were ushered into the courtyard for reception drinks (Pimms) and canapés. When the canapés arrived, I asked the waitress whether they had nuts in and was pleased to find out that they didn't. We therefore enjoyed a miniature beef wellington, tempura prawns and a cheese and tomato bruschetta. The canapés were delicious and helped get us through to the wedding breakfast.

The wedding breakfast was an afternoon tea. I was slightly worried about this at first. I absolutely love afternoon tea but I am aware that it can sometimes be very difficult from a nut allergy perspective. Most the time there will be at least one cake that has nuts in. I therefore asked a member of staff before going through to the wedding breakfast whether there food would contain any nuts. He replied that he thought everything was ok but said he would double check with the chef. He then returned a couple of moments later to confirm that the food would be nut free. I was surprised at this and asked again "even the cakes" but he reassured me that everything was ok. True to his word, it was and I enjoyed a selection of sandwiches, scones (both cheese and fruit), pastries and cake along with all the other guests. The cakes were a particular highlight as I don't ordinarily get to enjoy cakes in restaurants. I had one of each on offer; shortbread, raspberry tart, macaroon and a boozy chocolate.

As the wedding moved into the evening, a barbecue was served with burgers, lamb koftas, pork and chorizo sausages, chicken, homemade coleslaw, salads and garlic and rosemary potatoes. The food was delicious and the chef was on hand to reassure me that all the barbecue food was nut free.

All in all, my experience at Woodhill Hall was amazing and from a nut allergy perspective I felt reassured and comfortable. I therefore award Woodhill Hall 5 out of 5.
