South Causey Inn, Stanley
We have visited the South Causey Inn on a number of occasions over the last couple of years. We love the home cooking and large portions which the South Causey offers. Another benefit is that the South Causey is very dog friendly and therefore we can take our Cockapoo puppy along with us.
The South Causey is also a hotel with uniquely styled rooms (including a converted double decker bus). We are hoping to be able to return in the near future and stay over in one of the rooms with a hot tub.
The staff at the South Causey have always been extremely understanding with my nut allergy. There have never been any problems and I have been able to sample the desserts too which is always a bonus.
On the last occasion we visited the South Causey on a Sunday afternoon. On a Sunday there is a reduced menu but still plenty of choice. I ordered a cheeseburger and thick cut chips and my husband ordered bacon and mushroom penne pasta with garlic bread (and because he was feeling greedy, a side portion of skinny fries too). At the time of ordering, I mentioned my nut allergy and the waitress agreed to let the chef know. Nothing further was said and the meal arrived shortly thereafter. I do feel more comfortable if the waitress comes back to confirm that the food is ok for nuts but I had assessed the food as relatively low risk so I didn't ask again.
The food was delicious. The burger was clearly home made and was served with a lovely tomato relish. The pasta was also really tasty but my husband regretted ordering the extra chips as he was too full to even make a dent in them.
We would have liked to have tried the desserts but unfortunately were too full this time.
In terms of the South Causey's attitude towards allergies, I think they deal with it pretty well. I've never had any problems on any of my visits. I'd rate the South Causey 4.5/5.
