Cafe Andaluz, Edinburgh
We recently visited Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Fringe and had an amazing time. We saw some brilliant shows including comedy (Jason Byrne) and illusionists (Scott Silven). Because we knew it was going to be busy and there was a large group of us we booked a table at Cafe Andaluz. Cafe Andaluz is deceptively large inside and beautifully decorated, capturing the Spanish theme.
On arrival we informed the waiter of my nut allergy. He was very helpful from the outset. He immediately went to get an allergen menu which clearly indicates which dishes had nuts in together with other allergens. This allowed us to view the whole menu with this in mind. We are often disappointed when allergen information is provided after we order and we suddenly find out we can't have a dish we had fancied.
There was lots to choose from that was nut free. Our group decided to chose 3 tapas each. I chose king prawns in garlic and chilli (gambas pil pil), patatas gratinadas (which is very similar to dauphinois potatoes) and pollo marinado (chicken with yoghurt and paprika). When we ordered the waiter took our nut allergy order first and even kept this separate to the rest of the table. He re-assured us that he would also inform the chefs and we were really put at ease by his understanding and helpful attitude.
The food came really quickly and was delicious. I was also able to try other peoples dishes on our table. The marinated beef dish was one of the stand out dishes and definitely worth a try.
To top off the lovely meal- the sangria was also very refreshing and helped with the Spanish vibes. We really enjoyed our experience and would rate it 5 out of 5 from a nut allergy perspective. The picture was taken after I'd dipped into the prawns and potatoes (I couldn't resist)!
